Visit our Karoo Agave Farm in Graaff-Reinet for the full experience

It is with great pleasure that we can now provide you with an AirBnB Tequila Masterclass and Agave Experience where you meet Tim Murray, the farmer of the incredibly diverse and majestic agave plant. With 22 years of experience farming agave, Tim has a wealth of knowledge and abundance of stories to share.

To give you an idea of what to expect, we got The Little Hedonist and The Cape Guide to pay him a visit, take some pictures and help us tell the story. Click on the hyperlinks on their names to see what they discovered.

The Setting - Rhoode Bloem Farm House

"In the heart of the Karoo, tucked between the layered mountains of Graaff-Reinet, lies a field of liquid gold – the ancient agave plantations, and the humble roots of Leonista." The Little Hedonist

Graaff-Reinet (also known as ‘The Gem of The Karoo’) is the 4th oldest town in South Africa and still holds onto much of its 19th century charm. The Karoo is mostly known for its vast amount of livestock and game farms and this quaint town makes for a great stopover on a Karoo road trip." The Cape Guide

The Tour

You meet in the agave plantations and investigate the farming activities in Graaff Reinet. Tim explains the cultivation process, history and the story of agave in South Africa. He explores the use of the agave plant and discusses its role in our agricultural society.

The Tasting

You explore the complicated and varied flavours and tastes, discuss the various production processes and develop a palate for agave spirits.

You end off with a local cocktail blended with Tim's own Karoo Agave Spirit and citrus grown on the farm.
